Dr. Seulki Susie Yoo will discuss Paul Dukas’s Jewish identity and heritage as reflected in his piano repertoire. The focus of the discussion will be on Dukas’s adaptation of Beethovenian “Kampf und Sieg” during the tumultuous Third Republic, particularly in the context of heightened societal tension during the Dreyfus Affair (1894).

Dr. Seulki Susie Yoo is a pianist and a scholar who specializes in French music during the fin-de-siècle, and especially in the work of Paul Dukas. She received her DMA and Masters from Penn State University, and she also holds degrees from Peabody Conservatory and the Korea National University of Arts. She has presented her research at multiple conferences, including the Society for Music Theory, the Music Teachers National Association, and the College Music Society. Seulki is dedicated to promoting Paul Dukas’s music through research, performance, and recordings, and she will soon release a solo album, titled “Dukas’s Piano Collection,” slated for release under the Sheva Collection label later this year. She is actively engaged in solo and ensemble performances worldwide, including appearances in the United States, Korea, Japan, Germany, Spain, and Austria. [Please welcome Dr. Seulki Susie Yoo.]
