The Jewish Studies & Music Study Group Award is presented annually by the American Musicological Society’s Jewish Studies & Music Study Group to recognize scholarly contributions at the intersection of music and Jewish studies. This year, the award honors an article, book chapter, or scholarly work of similar scope of exceptional merit published in English (including translations) that advances the understanding of music in Jewish culture and history through a variety of theoretical and methodological frameworks. Eligible works for the upcoming award cycle must bear a copyright date between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025.
The JSMSG Article Award Committee will select a single award recipient from all eligible candidates. Anyone may submit a nomination or self-nomination; however, all nominated authors must be members in good standing of the AMS. Nominators are kindly asked to provide access to the articles they nominate.
Nominations should be submitted via the form below no later than July 31, 2026. The committee aims to notify all authors about the results by the end of September. The winner will be announced
